Stephane is a director i worked with several years ago (circa 2007) when i used to publish DVD's with my other company, he had directed a short film called "Play the game" wich I did the packaging and authoring for. It was nice to be able to work with him again. Concerning this ad campain i did the visual effects (backgrounds tweaking, screen incrustations and visual content) and the motion design work (Logo and text animation).

I was supervising a team of two graphic designers on this project wich included a enormous amount of vfx work. The main TV film that you see here was the easiest part of the job, except for the removal of the rain on the car windows...(what??). But we also had to make several instagram format films to explain the different car technologies and some shots in those films where entirely rebuilt from the ground up. I also was in charge of the motion design. It was a great opportunity to test my team leading skills and I am quite happy of how everything turned out as it was a big challenge.

I started this project as a motion/vfx designer, after several iterations the client kept being unsatisfied by the agency's decisions on the film. So I ended up having the opportunity to work closely with the creative director to translate the way the film approached showing the emotions brought by the coffee and the place of origin of each product into a coherent graphical language. Not only the client liked the film, but it also allowed to bring everyone back to be looking in the same direction and share a common vision of the work.

I was consulted for this project very early on, as some shots where very ambitious, to advise the post production team on how to proceed on set. I also worked with the creative team to research visual language elements and mock up some visual effects shots. I then ended up working on the visual effects and teamed up with the 3D and Flame dept. to adress some shots that couldn't be done in After Effects.

This project was not overly complex but had a lot of vfx shots (car cleaning, background cleaning, scenes relighting, etc.) that we tackled with another motion designer (Simon Tam Bui) in a few days. It was fun to do!

I had worked on another film by Anh Vu (Milleis bank) but had just done some matte painting mock ups to give to the Flame artist and some logo animation on it. This was an opportunity to work more extensively on one of her movies as i really like her visual universe. As the shots are often intertwined we had to use a lot of tricks to create seamless transitions. For the chrome bottle transtition I even had to recreate a 3D chrome model in Cinema 4D to rebuild the texture as it was originaly shot with a matt steel bottle.

This is what i relate to as my first big project as a Vfx artist and motion designer : the launch campaign for the V2 of the 3rd most sold car in the world. We worked as a 3 person team. One flame artist and two After Effects designers, sometimes three, and also a 3D team. There where a lot of deliverables. Three or four main films, one to be screened at 50fps on a hudge screen at the Frankfurt car show. No extended deadlines. It was a very interesting project to be part of and the product have a lot of appeal wich makes it even more enjoyable. It also allowed me to meet a very interesting director.
